CHAPTER 4 A perfect servant of the Almighty God who discharged his obligations 72 the guidance of the people of Ta ’if, even though they had drenched him in his own blood, became extremely restless on missing the S al a t and said, "May God destroy the enemy who stopped us from offering S al a t". Then he gathered his Companions and offered the missed S al a t. 20 He was so particular about the congregational prayer that at the time of the victory of Makkah, he stayed outside Makkah and at a great distance from Masjid-ul- H ar a m. He still regularly came for S al a t in H ar a m. Even during the battle, in times of danger and fear, he never missed S al a t. He even led half the prayer with one group of his Companions while the other group remained busy in fighting with the enemy. Then the second group joined him for the other half of the S al a t. The message he conveyed was that even when life itself is in danger, observance of S al a t cannot be neglected. He allowed Muslims to offer S al a t by signs only, while riding or walking. 21 In his last illness, when the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa was suffering from a high fever of typhoid, his only worry was about S al a t. He restlessly enquired again and again, if the time for S al a t had come. When he was told that his Companions were waiting for S al a t, he asked them to pour water on him in order to lessen the fever. Even after this he fainted and could not reach the mosque.
