The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa never abstained from worship. 8 Diligent Performance of S al a t S al a t was such a daily and nightly routine of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa as if it was a source of sustenance for his soul. Even though for the sake of convenience he had given permission to his Companions, that if food is served, they should eat first and then go for S al a t. But as regards his ownself, once when he was eating and Bil a l ra called for S al a t, he said "May All a h do good to him". Meaning that it would have been better if he had allowed us to finish our food before calling us for S al a t. He put the food aside and the knife with which the meat was being carved, and went for S al a t. 9 Hadrat ‘ A ’ishah ra informs us that as soon as the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa heard Bil a l ra 's call for S al a t, he would stand up promptly and go for S al a t. 10 Even in illness he did not neglect S al a t. Once he fell off a horse, and received a serious injury on his right side and could not lead S al a t standing up. He led the S al a t while sitting down and still did not miss congregational prayer. 11 He was particular about the arrangements for S al a t while travelling. It is in the traditions that only on two occasions a Companion of his had to lead S al a t in his absence.
