Muhammad sa The Perfect Man 559 The Holy Qur’ a n is the most authentic book of the times of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa. In it the instructions of All a h Almighty regarding the code of conduct during Islamic wars are; َ ِ و َّﻗَﺎﺗِﻠُﻮا ْ ىف ِْ ﺳVَِﻴْﻞ ِ اﷲ َ اﻟ َ ﺬِﻳْﻦ َ ﻳُﻘَﺎﺗِﻠُﻮﻧَکُﻢ ْ و ّٰﻻ َﺗَﻌْﺘَﺪُوا ْ إِن َّ اH ُّﻻ َحيُِﺐ املُْﻌْﺘَﺪِﻳْﻦ (2:191) "And fight in the cause of All a h against those who fight against you, but do not transgress. Surely All a h loves not the transgressors. " Again God instructs; ْ ْوَﻫُﻢ َّ ﺑَﺪَؤُو کُﻢ ْ أَوَّلَ ﻣَﺮ ةٍ. (9:13) "And they were the first to commence hostilities against you. " Even in such a case the Muslims were instructed, (8:62) ََ ﺟَﻨَﺤُﻮا ْ ﻟِﻠﺴَّﻠْﻢ ِ ﻓَﺎﺟْﻨَﺢ ْ هل وَإِن َ اﷲََّﻞْ َُِﺎ وَﺗَﻮ َّ ُإِﻧ ُ ﻫ ُ ﻮ َ اﻟﺴَّﻤِﻴْﻊ اﻟْﻌَﻠِﻴْﻢ "And if they incline towards peace, incline thou also towards it and put thy trust in All a h. " In the light of these Islamic principles, the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa always advised his Companions never to wish for confrontation with the enemy and always beg peace and safety from All a h. But when you are attacked fight steadfastly and remember that paradise lies in the shadow of the swords. 3 Hadrat Buraidah ra relates; "Whenever the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa appointed a commander or dispatched an army, the most
