Letters to the chiefs of Amman The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa sent ‘Amr ra bin Al-‘ As with letters to Jaifar and ‘Abd, the two chiefs of ‘Umm a n. The older brother, Jaifar replied that he would think about it and give his response the next day. The next day after some hesitation he accepted Islam and allowed ‘Amr ra bin Al-‘ As to collect Zak a t from those who had accepted Islam. So he collected Zak a t from the rich people and distributed it among the poor. 71 Letter to the chief of Bahrain The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa sent ‘Al a ’bin H a d ram i with a letter to Mundhir bin S a w a Al-‘Abd i , the chief of Ba h rain. Mundhir testified the truth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa and accepted Islam. H u du r sa allowed him to retain his chiefdom and advised him to give religious freedom to the Muslims and collect tax from the Jews and the Zoroastrians. 72
