Hazrat Mirza ghulam AHmAD 32 However, when Hadrat Ab u Bakr ra , whom God had granted knowledge of the Quran, recited the above-mentioned verse, the Companions came to know for a certainty that all Prophets had died. As a result, the Companions were heartened by this verse, and the sense of grief that had overtaken them due to the death of their beloved Prophet was dispelled and they went about happily reciting the aforesaid verse in the streets of Madinah. It was on this occasion that H ass a n bin Th a bit wrote for the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, the follow - ing mournful couplets : ْ َ لِنَاظِرِي َ السَّوَاد کُنْت ُ َ النَّاظِر ْ عَلَیْك فَعَمِي ْ َ فَلْیَمُت َ بَعْدَك ْ شَاء مَن ُ ُ اُحَاذِر َ کُنْت فَعَلَیْك That is: You, O Prophet s as , were the pupil of my eye. Your depar - ture has made me blind. Now, no matter who dies, be it ‘ I s a [ Jesus] or M u s a [Moses], I cannot care less for them, as it was your pass - ing that I feared most. In other words, it was due to your passing that the Companions came to believe that all Prophets had died; hence they cared not in the least for anyone else. A line in another couplet says: وہ ی تبحموہوتا� ی بجعاھتقشعاسدلم Wonderful indeed was the love occupying that heart. Indeed, such should be the condition of love.
