14 MAY 1908 Islam is the Middle Way The Promised Messiahas said: God has made Islam a model for other people. Such a mid- dle path has been adopted in it that is completely free from extremes. وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا لِتَكُونُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ ! Justification for Accusatory Reply The Promised Messiahas said: Replies are of two types. One confirmatory and the other accu- satory. Allah the Exalted has also made use of accusatory replies in certain instances. These inform the critic of the weakness of his own religion. Thus, when the Christians claimed that Jesus as is the Son of God and its proof is that he was born of the Virgin Mary, Allah the Exalted replied by saying: إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَى عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ 2 Meaning that if this indeed was the proof of him being the Son [of God] then Adamas has the first right to be the Son [of God]. 467 1. And thus have We made you an exalted nation, that you may be guardians over men (Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:144). [Publisher] 2.
