The Adh a n [Call to Prayer] was made soon after that. After per- forming ablution, I reached the small mosque. I saw that the Promised Messiah, peace be on him, was sitting in the small room, and Maulaw i Syed Muhammad A h san and Maulaw i Muhammad ‘Al i were sitting next to him. Miya n Ghul a m Ras u l, the barber from Amritsar, was describing his own condition. On this, the Promised Messiah as said: Be patient. Our Jam a ‘at is in its initial phase. They are still like a weak tree. Look! The largest tree, Shisham [i. e. North Indian rosewood] or any other tree when small, can be uprooted with very little force, even with one’s nails.
