Lecture Ludhiana 153 Meaning that: ‘Tell them that Allah the Exalted is innocent of acting in violation of His promise, particularly when He has precluded man from ascending bodily to the heavens. If I do this, I will be considered a liar. ’ Now, if your belief that Jesus ascended to the heavens is correct, what explanation would you have for an antagonist Christian clergyman who criticises the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, based on this verse? So what is the benefit of believing in things that have no origin in the Holy Quran, because in doing so, you will only defame Islam and the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him? Furthermore, the earlier scriptures do not contain any precedent of this kind either, and it is not pro- hibited to engage in ijtih a d [interpretive judgement] on the basis of these scriptures. Allah the Exalted says about the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: 1 َدِهَش ٌدِهاَش ْۢنِّم ْۤيِنَب َلْيِءٓاَرْسِا َدِهَش ٌدِهاَش ْۢنِّم ْۤيِنَب َلْيِءٓاَرْسِا And then He says: 2 ىٰفَك ِهّٰللاِب اًۢدْيِهَش ْيِنْيَب َو ْمُكَنْيَب َو ْنَم ٗهَدْنِع ُمْلِع ِبٰتِكْلا ىٰفَك ِهّٰللاِب اًۢدْيِهَش ْيِنْيَب َو ْمُكَنْيَب َو ْنَم ٗهَدْنِع ُمْلِع ِبٰتِكْلا And similarly He says: 3 ٗهَنْوُفِرْعَي اَمَك َنْوُفِرْعَي ْمُهَءٓاَنْبَا ٗهَنْوُفِرْعَي اَمَك َنْوُفِرْعَي ْمُهَءٓاَنْبَا 1. A witness from among the children of Israel bears witness to the advent of one like him ( S u rah al-A h q a f, 46:11). [Publisher] 2. ‘Sufficient is Allah as a Witness between me and you, and so is he who possess- es knowledge of the Book’ ( S u rah ar-Ra‘d, 13:44). [Publisher] 3. (Those to whom We have given the Book) recognise it as the truth even as they recognise their sons ( S u rah al-Baqarah, 2:147). [Publisher]
