Lecture Ludhiana 107 And then, at another place it says: 1 ْلُق اَهُّيَاٰۤي ُساَّنلا ْيِّنِا ُلْوُسَر ِهّٰللا ْمُكْيَلِا اَعْيِمَج ْلُق اَهُّيَاٰۤي ُساَّنلا ْيِّنِا ُلْوُسَر ِهّٰللا ْمُكْيَلِا اَعْيِمَج Moreover, he was a Prophet who exemplified truthfulness and loyalty and demonstrated such excellences as cannot be seen anywhere else; so if he were to die, would his death not come as a great shock to his devoted followers, who never hesitated to lay down their lives for his sake? They were those who aban- doned their homelands, left their kith and kin, and considered bearing every type of pain and difficulty for his sake a source of comfort for their lives. How could they remain unaffected by his death? A little thought and reflection will reveal that we cannot in any way conceive or establish an idea of the extent of the shock and distress experienced by the Companions at the mere possi- bility of the Holy Prophet’s demise. The source of their comfort and satisfaction was indeed this verse that Ab u Bakr ra recited. May Allah the Exalted reward him abundantly for guiding the Companions aright during such a precarious situation. I have to say with regret that due to their haste and rash- ness, some ignorant people say that Ab u Bakr ra may indeed have recited this verse, but Jesus, peace be on him, is left out- side of it. I do not know what to say to such ignorant people. Despite being called religious divines, they present such absurd notions. They fail to specify the word in the verse which singles out Jesus as an exception. Indeed, Allah the Exalted has left no debatable element in it. God, Himself defines the term ۡ قَد ۡ خَلَت ۡ قَد ۡ خَلَت [ qad-khalat ] as: 2 ْنِٕىۡاَفَا َتاَّم ْوَا َلِتُق ْنِٕىۡاَفَا َتاَّم ْوَا َلِتُق Had there been a third option 1. Say, ‘O mankind! truly I am a Messenger to you all from Allah…’ ( S u rah al- A‘r a f, 7:159). [Publisher] 2. If then he dies or be slain ( S u rah A l-e-‘Imr a n, 3:145). [Publisher]
