Further, the book that He has given is so perfect, so decisive, and so certain that: 2 ِ ٗه ِْيْ َف َ ٍب ْ ُي َ ُر َا ْل This is a perfect Book; there is no doubt in it. In addition to this: 3 ٌ ِة َِمَ ْي َ ُق ٌ ٍب ُ َت ُـ ْك َْھَا ْي ِ َف Therein are lasting commandments. Moreover, Allah the Exalted describes it as containing verses that are decisive in meaning (ayaat-um-muhkamat); He describes this book as a decisive word (qawlun fasl), as a measure (mizan), as a protector (muhaymin). In short, the religion of the Muslims is perfect and complete in every respect. The following words have set a seal on this fact: 4 َْمَِتِْيْ ُع ِ َّن ْ ُم َُْيُْك ُل َ ِع ُ ِت ْ َم َْمَ َّت َ ا ََو ْ ُم َُكُ ْن ْـ ُي ِ َد ْ ُم َُكُ ْل ُ ِت ْ ُل َْمَ ُك َ ا َ ِم َْوْ ْي َْلْ ا This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour upon you. Then how unfortunate is it that despite having such a perfect Faith, which is the source of deriving God’s pleasure, they are still deprived; they do not partake of the blessings and fruits of this religion. In fact, they have more often than not, stood up to oppose the dispensation which God Almighty has established to keep these blessings alive. They have raised voices proclaiming ً اَل َ ُس ْ ِر ُ ِم ََْت ُّس َلَ (you are not a Messenger) and ْا ً ْن ِْمِ َؤ ُ ِم ََْت ُّس َلَ (you are not a believer). Bear in mind that the mere verbal declaration of God’s Unity is not sufficient to attract those blessings which are gained when one’s verbal declaration is accom - panied by all its essentials, i. e. by righteous deeds. It is true that the Unity of God is a chiefly supreme element of belief to which every true Muslim and God-fearing individual ought to adhere. However, there is another aspect for perfect belief in God’s Oneness also and it is the love of 1 al-Anbiya , 21:108 2 al-Baqarah, 2:3 3 al-Bayyinah , 98:4 4 al-Ma’idah , 5:4 p. 105
