254 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n witnesses, and the righteous. And excellent companions are these. 248 The first verse speaks about people before the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhamma as , who believed in All ā h and His messengers and it is stated that they gained the status of the truthful and the witnesses. Comparatively, the second verse speaks about people after the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa and it is stated that those who obey All ā h and His Messenger, that is, the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa , can achieve the status of the prophets, the truthful, the witnesses, and the righteous. The word Kم [ hum ] can only be translated as “among” in the first verse just as the word Gع [ ma‘a ] can only be translated as “among” in the second verse. In both cases, the translation of “with” is not applicable. A point to be noted here is that people before the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa were given these ranks directly by believing in All ā h and His messengers but after the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa , they are awarded these ranks only through obedience to All ā h and His messenger, the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa.
