250 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n as if he is seeing All ā h, the Exalted, with his eyes. Then, with the blessing of this faith, the bitterness and difficulty in doing good deeds is removed. Also, the decree of All ā h, the Exalted, descends upon the heart like honey due to harmony. It fills up the chest with sweetness and every trial seems to be a reward. Hence, a shah ī d is one who experiences the mush ā hidah of God [that is, sees the light of God] with the strength of his faith and gets pleasure from the bitterness of the decree [of God] as if it was sweet honey. In this sense, he is called shah ī d and this status is a sign for the perfect believer. 243 This is the official understanding of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jam ā ‘at of the word shah ī d and what has been translated by Mr. Ghul ā m Far ī d at certain places in the Qur’an is an implied meaning of shah ī d. Furthermore, even if the meaning of the word shah ī d is taken to mean martyr , it does not mean that verse 70 of S ū rah An-Nis ā ’ only applies for the hereafter, because All ā h knows whether or not a person will be a martyr even before the birth of a person. Hence, in the knowledge of All ā h, the Exalted, a person is a martyr long before he or she actually gets the status. In summary, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jam ā ‘at’s understanding of verse 70 of S ū rah An-Nis ā ’ is that All ā h, the Exalted, will continue to send the prophets, the truthful, the witnesses, and the righteous, from among those who truly obey the commandments of All ā h, the Exalted, and follow the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa in letter and spirit. The prayer for the achievement of these stages has been taught in S ū rah Al-F ā tihah 243 Tery ā q-ul-Qul ū b, Page 124
