Continuation of Prophethood according to the Holy Qur’ ā n 245 ِ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻪ ْ ﺟَﺎٓءُو َ ﻟَّﻮْﻻ َ ﺷُﻬَﺪَآء ِ ابَِرْﺑَﻌَﺔ ْ ﻟَﻢ ْ ﻓَﺎِذ ايَْﺗُﻮْا ِ ابِﻟﺸُّﻬَﺪَآء َ ﻓَﺎُوﻟٰٓﯩِٕﻚ َ اﻟْـﻜٰﺬِﺑُﻮْن ُُ مه ِّٰ اهلل َ ﻋِﻨْﺪ Why did not those, who gave currency to this charge, bring four witnesses to prove it? Since they have not brought the required witnesses , they are indeed liars in the sight of All ā h! 235 This is the level of credibility of Farhan Khan who dared to say that when the word ash-shuhad ā ’ is used “in the Qur’ ā n and Had ī th literature, it always means martyrs”! There are many other verses to prove that his ridiculous claim is wrong but only two verses should suffice. In his Mufrid ā t, Im ā m R ā ghib has also made it very clear that the word shah ī d in S ū rah An-Nis ā ’, verse 70, means “witness”: ب`وFہ : } ُّ وَاXF a َ ْنiِ`ْMِِّّدYFوَا َ f َ ْنiِِحcّٰYFوَا a ِ دَآء { a واGٔا a واXdFاKد a XcFاKد a M`ال a B`د a اigXFد ٔ XcF 236 With his statement: “And the truthful, and the witnesses, and the righteous” – and shah ī d: it is used in the meaning of “witness” and “the witnessing of something” It gives us no pleasure in saying this but keeping a beard and speaking with an Arabic accent makes no one an authority on Qur’ ā n and ah ā d ī th. Statements made by Farhan Khan are so strange that we have no choice but to say that he is ignorant of the Arabic language. His translation of shah ī d as “martyr” is not 235 S ū rah An-N ū r, 24:14 236 Mufrid ā t Im ā m R ā ghib , under the word شھد [ shahada ]
