130 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n What is a Ru’ya (Dream/Vision)? Another thing that should be understood is: What is a رؤ Mا [ ru’y ā ]? Is it not possible to receive orders and commandments from God through a ru’y ā ? Regarding a vision of the Holy Prophet sa , All ā h, the Exalted, says: ِ ﻟِّﻠﻨَّﺎس ً ﻓِﺘْﻨَﺔ َّ اِﻻ َ اَرَﻳْﻨٰﻚ ِْۤ اﻟَّىت َ اﻟﺮُّءْاي ﺟَﻌَﻠْﻨَﺎ وَﻣَﺎ … And We made not the vision which We showed thee but as a trial for men… 125 It is obvious that since this verse is in S ū rah Al-Isr ā ’, the word ru’y ā here refers to the Isr ā ’ of the Holy Prophet sa. Even Hazrat Ibn Abb ā s ra confirms this when he says: َ أر Mِ a ً ْنiَ@ a رؤ Mَا a ’K َ f اﷲ a ُ ر:ول a ا a a و:cم a @icہ a اﷲ a ‘c< a بِہ a َ أ:ْرِي a َ َۃcْiَF It was an actual eye-witness which was shown to All ā h’s Apostle sa during the night he was taken on a journey. 126 Everybody knows that in this ru’y ā , All ā h, the Exalted, clearly showed signs to the Holy Prophet sa. The angel Gabriel as was with him but only up to a point beyond which the Holy Prophet sa advanced on his own. This is the greatness of this ru’y ā !! It is in this vision or ru’y ā of the Holy Prophet sa that even commandments concerning the shar ī ‘ah were revealed to him. 125 S ū rah Al-Isr ā ’, 17:61 126 Sah ī h Bukh ā r ī , Kit ā but Tafs ī r, باب : a َ و ِ َّاسecِّF a ٍ َۃeِْتB a َّ اِﻻ a َ اَر eْMَٰک a ٓ‘َِّتFا a اFرُّءMَْا a َاeْcَ]َج a Gَا
