86 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n According to the Ahmadis, ‘Es ā bin Mar ī am عليہ السالم is a non-law-bearing Prophet. It is true that he came to confirm the Torah, but it is vital to consider S ū rah Ā le 'Imr ā n, verse 50, where ‘Es ā bin Mar ī am السالم عليہ says: َ ﻳَﺪ َْ ﺑَني ﻟِّﻤَﺎ وَﻣُﺼَﺪِّﻗًﺎ َ ﺣُﺮِّم ْ اذلَِّى َ ﺑَﻌْﺾ ُْ ﻟَـمك َّ وَﻻُِﺣِﻞ ِ اﻟﺘَّﻮْرٰﯨﺔ َ ﻣِﻦ َّ ى ُْ ﻋَﻠَﻴْمك ؕ ُْ رَّﺑِّمك ْ ﻣِّﻦ ٍ ابِٰﻳَﺔ ُْ وَﺟِﺌْﺘُمك ِ وَاَﻃِﻴْﻌُﻮْن َّٰ اهلل ﻓَﺎﺗَّﻘُﻮْا ‘And I come fulfilling that which is before me, namely, the Torah; and to allow you some of that which was forbidden unto you, and I come to you with a Sign from your Lord; so fear All ā h and obey me. ’. . . although Es ā bin Mar ī am السالم عليہ fulfills the Torah, per the mandate of All ā h, he also modified and altered the existing laws. Some of the scholars of Isl ā m comment that this means he allowed certain foods that were previously impermissible and made work permissible on their Sabbath. Either way, he was authorized to modify law. This would effectively make him a “law-bearing” Prophet. 76 It is sometimes amusing to see the great lengths that Farhan Khan is willing to go in order to discredit the beliefs of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jam ā ‘at. This argument of Farhan Khan is refuted in the following section. 76 Khan, With Love , Page 35
