266 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n وَرِﻳْﺸًﺎ ُْ ﺳَﻮْاٰﺗِمك ْ ﻳُّﻮَارِى ﻟِﺒَﺎﺳًﺎ ُْ ﻋَﻠَﻴْمك اَﻧْﺰَﻟْﻨَﺎ ْ ﻗَﺪ َ اٰدَم ِْۤ ﻳٰﺒَىن ؕ ُ وَﻟِﺒَﺎس ٌْ ﺧَري َِ ذٰكل اﻟﺘَّﻘْﻮٰى ؕ َ ﻳَﺬَّﻛَّﺮُوْن ْ ﻟَﻌَﻠَّﻬُﻢ ِّٰ اهلل ِ اٰﻳٰﺖ ْ ﻣِﻦ َِ ذٰكل O children of Adam! We have indeed sent down to you raiment to cover your shame, and to be an elegant dress; but the raiment of righteousness — that is the best. That is one of the Signs of All ā h, that they may remember. 261 According to Farhan Khan, All ā h, the Exalted, has sent down the raiment for previous nations, not for Muslims, and He has exhorted the previous nations to choose the raiment of righteousness, but not the Muslims. Then, in verse 28, All ā h says: َّ اﻟﺸـ ُُ ﻳَﻔْﺘِﻨَـﻨَّمك َ ﻻ َ اٰدَم ِْۤ ﻳٰﺒَىن ُ ﻳَزنِْع ِ اﻟْﺠَـﻨَّﺔ َ ﻣِّﻦ ُْ اَﺑَﻮَﻳْمك َ اَﺧْﺮَج ََۤ امك ُ ﻴْﻄٰﻦ ُ ﺣَﻴْﺚ ْ ﻣِﻦ ُٗ وَﻗَﺒِﻴْهل َ ﻫُﻮ ُْ ﻳَﺮٰﯨمك ٗ اِﻧَّﻪ ؕ ﺳَﻮْءٰهتِِﻤَﺎ ﻟِريُِهيَُﻤَﺎ ﻟِﺒَﺎﺳَﻬُﻤَﺎ ﻋَهنُْﻤَﺎ ْ ﺗَﺮَوْهنَُﻢ َ ؕﻻ َ ﻳُﺆْﻣِﻨُﻮْن َ ﻻ َ ﻟِذلَِّﻳْﻦ َ اَوْﻟِﻴَﺎٓء َْ اﻟﺸـَّﻴٰﻄِني ﺟَﻌَﻠْﻨَﺎ َّ اِان O children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, even as he turned your parents out of the garden, stripping them of their raiment that he might show them their shame. Truly he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you see them not. Surely, We have made satans friends for those who believe not. 262 Farhan Khan’s understanding of the above verse would be that Satan can only seduce the previous nations, not the Muslims, and satans were made friends of the disbelievers of the previous 261 S ū rah Al-A‘r ā f, 7:27 262 S ū rah Al-A‘r ā f, 7:28
