With Love to Muhammad (sa) - The Khatam-un-Nabiyyin — Page 156
156 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n meaning one who brings news of the unseen [from All ā h]. ” 154 According to Farhan Khan, Hazrat Ibn ‘Arab ī rh wrote of two kinds of nubuwwah : 1. Nubuwwah at-Tashr ī ‘ ī (Law bearing prophethood) 2. Nubuwwah al-‘ Ā mah (prophethood for the common man) Before proceeding further, let us analyze the contradiction Farhan Khan has created for himself. If he considers Hazrat Ibn ‘Arab ī rh as an authority on this issue, then in accordance with his practice, he should have disagreed with him. He should have perhaps written a book against Hazrat Ibn ‘Arab ī rh and criticized him for applying the term Nab ī to people after the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa. He should have written that since the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa has written, “ L ā Nab ī yya Ba‘ad ī ” (There is no prophet after me), it was not only inappropriate, but kufr (disbelief) for Hazrat Ibn ‘Arabi rh to apply this term to anyone in any sense of the term whatsoever ! Regardless of the meanings and applications of the term Nab ī used by Hazrat Ibn ‘Arab ī rh , the absoluteness of Farhan Khan’s stance on the finality of prophethood is severely damaged when he accepts that the term Nab ī can be applied to others after the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa in another form. In his chapter, he has made an announcement to the world that he is willing to accept that one form of nubuwwah ( prophethood ) has continued after the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa and in one sense , the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa is not the last prophet or Nab ī !
