98 With Love to Muhammad sa the Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n It must be clearly understood that the object of this had ī th is to highlight the appointment of Hazrat ‘Al ī ra to act in the place of or as an in charge of the region while the Holy Prophet sa was to be absent from Medina during his expedition to Tab ū k. It was also done to highlight Hazrat ‘Al ī ’s ra resemblance to Hazrat H ā r ū n as when Hazrat M ū s ā as had journeyed to the Mount. It is to be noted that the word ب]دی [ ba‘ad ī ] here means iAری [ ghair ī : besides me]. It does not mean after me in time. As we say that in: ِّٰ اهلل ِ ﺑَﻌْﺪ ْۢ ﻣِﻦ ِ هيَّْﺪِﻳْﻪ ْ ﻓَﻤَﻦ ؕ (Who, then, will guide him other than All ā h? 84 ). اﷲ a ب]د [ ba‘d-All ā h ] means other than All ā h. He further states: Here the word ب]دی [ ba’ad ī ] is not in the context of زGاH a ب]دMت [ after his time ] because Hazrat H ā r ū n as did not outlive Hazrat M ū s ā as. Hence, the implied conclusion was not for a period after the Holy Prophet sa for Hazrat ‘Al ī ra. As a result, there was no reason to make the exception of a period after the Holy Prophet sa for Hazrat ‘Al ī ra. What a powerful argument!
