AFTER HIS FATHER’S DEATH as 70 decided the case in his favour; but the Chief Court decided against him, and he had to pay all the costs. It was a great shock and a bitter disappointment to him. As a matter of fact, the descendants of Mirza Ta s adduq Jilani and Mirza Ghulam Ghaus had sold their share of the property to Mirza A‘ z am Baig of Lahore, who was paying the costs of the case. The proper course, in the opinion of Ahmad as , was that his brother should enforce his right of preemption against Mirza Azam Baig of Lahore; but he did not listen to Ahmad as and went to the expense of thousands of rupees and then lost the property as well. He did not, however, give up actual possession of the property in his lifetime. M I R NASIR NAWAB ra M i r Nasir Nawab ra12 of Delhi was a government servant who worked in the Canal Department. He had worked near Qadian before in connection with the canal which runs on the west side of Qadian. As in 12 The M i r Sahib belonged to a most distinguished Sayyid family of Delhi and was a descendant of the well-known saint, Khw a ja M i r Dard through his daughter. This family was granted a big Jagir by the Mughal rulers on account of its high traditions of nobility. Some ruling families, like that of Luharu, gave their daughters in marriage to members of this family. The fact that Khw a ja M i r Dard gave his daughter in marriage to this family is also a proof of the eminent position which it enjoyed and of the degree of respect in which it was held in those days. The M i r Sahib joined the Canal Department in 1866; his uncle Nasir Husain was at Lahore in the same Department.
