as REMOVES A MISCONCEPTION 825 people to whom he is sent. But there is nothing in the verse to indicate that it is essential for a Prophet not to be the follower of anyone. Such an interpretation of this verse is clearly in conflict with the true meaning of the Quran. 186 Ismael as , Isaac as , Jacob as and Joseph as were all Prophets and, according to the Holy Quran, they followed in the footsteps of Abraham as (Al- Baqarah 2:133). Aaron as was assistant to Moses as ( Ta Ha 20:30). He was subordinate (Al-A‘r a f 7:151). Moses as says to him: 'Take my place among my people and act well' (Al-A‘r a f 7:143). He seized Aaron by his beard ( Ta Ha 20:95). Moses as asks for an explanation ( Ta Ha 20:94). Verse Al- H ad i d 57:28 runs as follows: 'We made our Apostles to follow in their footsteps!' The Holy Prophet sa says: 'If Moses and Jesus were alive, they would have been my followers. ' 187 (2) It is said that a Prophet must bring a new law. The following two verses are quoted in support of this belief. 'Certainly We sent Our Messengers with clear arguments and sent down with them the Kit a b and the measure' (Al- H ad i d 57:26). In the second verse (Al- Na h l 16:45) the word used instead of the Kit a b is Zub u r. The former has a wider signification. Both these words are translated as 'Book' to prove that every Prophet must bring a law.
