as CHRISTIAN VITUPERATION 413 He had already made himself notorious by his rabid and scurrillous attacks upon the Holy Founder sa of Islam. His books T a r i kh-e-Muhammad i and Hid a yatul Muslim i n had inflicted deep wounds upon the religious susceptibilities of the Muslims. Even the Hindu Park a sh of Amritsar (Vol. 2, No. 40, dated October 12th, 1874, pp. 10, 11) had protested against his bitter attacks. Another Hindu paper, Aft a b-e- Punjab had also condemned his writings (Vol. 2, No. 39). A Muslim had exposed this paid preacher of the Christians in a book entitled ‘Uq u batu d Da ll i n. Even the organ of the American Mission, Shamsul-Akhb a r of Lucknow, had admitted the abusive nature of Im a d- ud-D i n’s writings in its issue of October 15th, 1875, No. 15, Vol. 7, p. 9. This man was now let loose upon Ahmad as by his Christian masters to mitigate their sense of defeat. He wrote a book Tauz i nul-Aqw a l , (1893) in which he not only poured abuse upon Ahmad as and Islam but also incited the Government against him like the Scribes and Pharisees of old. Ahmad as , therefore, wrote a book in Arabic to expose the utter ignorance of Im a d-ud-D i n and his colleagues, Karam D i n, Ni za mud D i n, Il a h i Bakhsh, H am i dullah Khan, N u r D i n, Sayyid Ali, Abdullah Baig, H is a mud-D i n, Qazi S afdar Ali, Abdur Ra h m a n, Hasan Ali, etc. . . Who were called Maulaw i s and learned men to deceive the public. Ahmad as offered him in 1884. Died in 1903.
