580 CHAPTER 60 ELEVATION OF RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION In 1897 a renegade from Islam, Dr. Ahmad Shah Sh a ’iq (formerly Medical Officer of Ladakh, living at Oxford), who had turned Christian, wrote a book attacking the consorts of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa. It was printed at the R. P. Mission Press, Gujranwala, and published by a Christian, named Parshotam D a s, as the agent of the author in India. One thousand copies of this book were sent free to Muslims, Ahmad as received a copy on 15-2-1898. The book wounded the hearts of Muslims deeply and caused considerable excitement among them.
