The Authority of the Khalifah About fifteen to twenty days after the Bai‘at , Maulaw i Muhammad Ali Sahib met me and said, “Miy a ń ! Have you ever considered how the organization of the Community would function”? I replied, “What is the point of pondering over this issue, for we have taken Bai‘at at the hand of Hadrat Maulaw i Sahib ra ”. On this, he said, “This is the relationship between a ‘ P i r ’ (spiritual mentor) and ‘ Mur i d ’ (follower of a ‘spiritual mentor’), and the question remains, how will the organization of our Jam a ‘at operate”? I said, “I do not see this matter worthy of discussion, as we have taken the Bai‘at of one person, and he can better explain which type of system should be established in the Jam a ‘at, and there is no need for us to interfere in this matter”. He stopped his argumentation, but added that the point required further consideration.
