150 KHILAFAT-E-R A SHIDAH Loss of Khilafat is Due to the Shortcoming of a Jam a ‘at, not because of a Shortcoming in the Khalifah It is evident from this command that the loss of Khilafat is not due to any shortcoming of a Khalifah but due to a shortcoming of a Jam a ‘at. The loss of Khilafat does not prove the sin of a Khalifah, but it is a proof of the sin of a Jam a ‘at, because it is a clear promise of Allah, the Almighty that He will continue Khilafat while the majority is on the path of faith and doing acts of goodness. When change comes and most of the people deviate from the path of faith and acts of goodness, then Allah, the Almighty will say, “you have become evil doers, so I withdraw My blessing from you”. (Though if God desires, He may continue making Khulaf a ’ in a Jam a ‘at for some time as an extra favour). When a person says that a Khalifah has become worthless, he, in other words, declares that the Jam a ‘at has been deprived of a majority of believers and performers of good works. It is the promise of God that as long as a Jam a ‘at is firm in faith and acts of goodness Khulaf a ’ will continue coming, but when they lose their steadfastness, the Khulaf a ’ will cease to come—so there is no chance of corruption of a Khalifah. However, there is a chance that the Jam a ‘at be deprived of people of faith and of performing acts of goodness. As the Khalifah cannot be corrupted—only the Jam a ‘at can be—when a person declares before the world that the Khalifah of
