? 113 Testament proves that forgiveness of sin and ordering a cripple to be up and hie home are human and not divine miracles. A similar incident (Matthew 8:1-11), pertains to an adulteress. It is said that the Messiah (peace be on him) forgave her sins, though she had not believed in him nor in his Redemption. WAS MESSIAH SON OF GOD? Now as to the other point whether sin could be forgiven only through the Son of God, the question arises whether Messiah (peace be on him) was really the Son of God. The answer is that there is no other argument in favour of this assertion but that the Messiah (peace be on him) himself made that claim. But the point is whether the Messiah (peace be on him) had in him divine attributes. For instance, when we say that God exists, we put forth arguments in support of the fact of His existence and cite as evidence the attributes and powers that do not inhere in men. But Christians offer no such evidence which would distinguish the Messiah (peace be on him) from the other prophets. In fact, the Bible ascribes many things to the Prophets which are not to be found in the Messiah (peace be on him). But this is a different subject. The relevant point here is that the entire foundation of Christianity rests on the assertion that the Messiah (peace be on him) claimed to be the Son of God and
