CHAPTER ONE 49 and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (Matthew 24:30) The true meaning of this verse is that Jesus, may peace be on him, says that a time will come when, from heaven, that is to say purely as a result of divine power, such knowledge and proofs and evidence will come into being as will invalidate the doctrines of his divinity, death on the cross, going up to heaven and coming back again; and that heaven will bear witness against the lies of those peoples, like, for example, the Jews, who denied his being a true prophet, and considered him to be accursed on account of his being put on the cross. And the fact that he did not suffer death on the cross and was, therefore, not accursed would become clearly estab- lished; then all the nations of the earth, who had exaggerated or detracted from his true station, would go into mourning and due to their error great shame and ignominy would be their lot. And in this same age, when this fact would become widely known, people would see Jesus, the Messiah, descending to the earth in a spiritual manner. This means that the Promised Messiah, who would come in the power and spirit of Jesus, the Messiah, would appear in these very days; with heavenly support and with such power and majesty accompanying him through God Almighty, and all his lustrous signs, that he would be easily recognised. When further explained, the verse means that God Almighty's will has so made the person of Jesus, may peace be on him, and such are the events of his life that they have caused some peoples to exaggerate, and others to downgrade his status.
