In the third volume of T abaq a t Ibn S a ’d, Imam Hasan ra , recounting the events relating to the death of Hadrat ‘Al i ra , is reported as saying: ُ لُوْن َ وَل َ یُدْرِکْہ ُ الْٰخَرُوْن َ قَدْکَان َ رَسُوْل َّ ْلَۃ َ رَجُل ٌ لَم ْ یَسبِقْہ ُ الَْو َّي اس ُ قَد ْ قُبِض َ الل َّ اَیُّھَا الن ُ ْل ي ِ ْکَائ ي ْنِہ ٖ وَمِ ي ِ م َّ ْل ُ عَن ْ ی ي َکْتَنِفُہ ٗ جِبْرَائِ ي م َ یَبْعَثُہ ُ الْمَبْعَث َ فَ َّ ْہ ِ وَسَل ي ی ہللا ُ عَلَ َّ ہللا ِ صَل َ شْتَرِی َّ سَبْع َ مِائَۃ ِ دِرْھَم ٍ اَرَاد َ اَن ْ ی َّ عَن ْ شِمَالِہ ٖ فَال َ یَنْثَنِی ْ حَتّٰی یَفْتَح ِ ہللا ُ لَہ ٗ وَمَا تَرَك َ اِل ٍ ْلَۃ َ سَبْع ي َ ْسَی بْن ِ مَرْیَم َ ل ي ْھَا بِرُوْح ِ عِ ي تِی ْ عُرِج َ فِ َّ ْلَۃ ِ ال َّي بِھَاخَادِمًا وَلَقَد ْ قُبِض َ فِی الل 25 َ وَعِشْرِیْن َ مِن ْ رَمَضَان O people, the man who has died today was in many respects unparalleled among his predecessors or succes - sors. When the Holy Prophet s as sent him to battle, he had Gabriel on his right and Michael on his left, so that he never returned from a battle without being victorious. He only left 77 Dirham as a bequest with which he intended to buy a slave. He died during the twenty-seventh night of the month of Ramadan, the same night that the spirit of Jesus was raised to Heaven. This citation shows that, according to the family of the Holy Prophet s as , Jesus had passed away. If this was not so, why would Imam Hasan ra say that Hadrat ‘Al i ra died the same night that Jesus’ spirit was raised to Heaven? As well as the Companions of the Holy Prophet s as and his fam - ily, renowned Muslim scholars who came after them must also have believed that Jesus was dead, for they were devoted to the Holy Quran, the sayings of the Holy Prophet s as and his Companions, and the opinions of the Holy Prophet’s family.
