90 who reflect and represent him, to come into the world and remind us of his teachings and his example. Likewise, this belief is contradicted by experience in that during the 1300-year period after the Holy Prophet s as there have appeared many individuals who have claimed to have been blessed with Divine discourse and to have been sent to rejuvenate the faith. These people present to us a lofty example of Islam and have played a major role in spreading and strengthening the faith. They included people such as Hadrat Junaid of Baghdad, Syed ‘Abdul Q a dir J i l a n i , Shaikh Shah a b-ud-D i n Suhrawardy, Hadrat Mo h y- ud-D i n Ibn-al-‘Arab i , Hadrat Bah a -ud-D i n Naqshband i, Shaikh Ahmad Sirhind i, Khaw a ja Mo i n-ud-D i n Chishty, Hadrat Sh a h Wal i Ull a h of Delhi, and others (peace be on them). Considering everything these sages did, how can we believe that there is no need for any Reformer after the Holy Prophet s as ? The fact is that there can be, have been, and will continue to be Reformers after the Holy Prophet s as. However, the circumstances prevailing in this age call for an extraordinary Reformer. Since Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah as , is the only one claiming to be such a Reformer, this constitutes a strong argument in his favour.
