26 education?’ Miss Mitchell said, ‘No, that is not the case. The Prophet of Islam s as lived in a society where women were looked down upon. They had no sta- tus in the society. The Prophet of Islam s as , therefore, emphasized the education of girls. ’ The education of boys is just as important as that of girls. Lailah raised her hand and said, ‘Miss! I come from Afghanistan. There was a time when the government did not allow girls’ education in schools. The girls’ schools were closed. The instruction of the Holy Prophet s as that ‘Acquisition of knowledge is obliga- tory upon every Muslim male and female,’ was com- pletely ignored. Miss Mitchell said, ‘I know that seeking of knowl- edge is considered to be a religious obligation in Islam. This is a very important topic indeed. If someone else wants to contribute something please do so. ’
