16 The Holy Quran describes the negative attitude of the Arabs on the birth of a girl as follows: َو اَذِا َرِّشُب ْمُهُدَحَا ىٰثْنُاْلاِب َّلَظ ٗهُهْجَو اًّدَوْسُم َّو َو اَذِا َرِّشُب ْمُهُدَحَا ىٰثْنُاْلاِب َّلَظ ٗهُهْجَو اًّدَوْسُم َّو َوُه ٌمْيِظَك۰۰ۚ ىٰلَع ٍنْوُه ْمَا ٗهُّسُدَي يِف ِباَرُّتلا١ؕ اَلَا َءٓاَس اَم ىٰلَع ٍنْوُه ْمَا ٗهُّسُدَي يِف ِباَرُّتلا١ؕ اَلَا َءٓاَس اَم ىٰراَوَتَي َنِم ِمْوَقْلا ْنِم ِءْٓوُس اَم َرِّشُب ٖهِب١ؕ ٗهُكِسْمُيَا ىٰراَوَتَي َنِم ِمْوَقْلا ْنِم ِءْٓوُس اَم َرِّشُب ٖهِب١ؕ ٗهُكِسْمُيَا َوُه ٌمْيِظَك۰۰ۚ َنْوُمُكْحَي۰۰ َنْوُمُكْحَي۰۰ And when to one of them is conveyed the tidings of the birth of a female, his face darkens, while he suppresses his inward grief. He hides himself from the people because of the bad news he has had: ‘Shall he keep it in spite of disgrace or bury it in the dust?’ Verily, evil is that which they judge. ( S u rah an-Na h l, 16:59–60) From the Holy Quran
