SEEKER AND SOUGHT Hadrat Maulw i Nur-ud-D i n ra — Khalifatul Masih I 84 dedicate himself to the cause of God. She was terrified and ejaculated: "How can that be while I am alive! He did not insist. Thereafter his brothers died, one after the other, at short intervals. After the death of each, his widow collected all his belongings and departed from the family mansion, which thus became deserted. On one occasion he came home from Jammu to visit his mother in midsummer. After the midday meal, when he was taking his siesta, he was suddenly awakened by his mother’s distressed cry proceeding from the adjoining room: "To Allah we belong and to Him shall we return (2:157). " He went over to her and remonstrated that a formula indicative of steadfast resignation to the divine will should not be pronounced in a distressed tone. Then he asked her: "Do you realise why this large house is now deserted?" She replied: "Yes, I remember what you said long ago. I have recalled it on the occasion of the death of every one of my sons. " He enquired: "Do you realise anything else?" She said: "Yes, I know that despite my wish that you should be with me at the time of my death and take care of everything," I shall die in your absence. And so it came about. He was in Jammu and could not reach her in time.
