We desire that we should consult together and agree upon some plan that should obviate any risk of trouble in case of an emergency. We wish to assure you that none of us desires to be Khal i fa , nor does Maulaw i Muhammad ‘Al i. " Sahibz a da Sahib ra heard him without interruption, though he had resented the implication that while none of them wished to be Khal i fa he was eager for the succession, and when he finished he observed: "I consider that even the discussion of the question, in the lifetime of a Khal i fa , who should succeed him is sinful, let alone the determination that a particular individual should be his successor.
