EMINENT DIVINE Hadrat Maulw i Nur-ud-D i n ra — Khalifatul Masih I 114 On his return from Bhopal he was told to proceed to Egypt and make a copy of Imam Ibn Qayyam’s rh book Shif a ’ul Al i l F i Mas a ’ilil Qa da ’i Wal Qadri Watta‘l i l from the libraries of Al-Azhar University and the Government of Egypt. Its volume was about 800 pages and its copying kept Maulaw i Ghul a m Nabi occupied for eighteen months. Another book of which he made a copy was Imam Say uti ’s Hamaal Hawame Maahu Sharah Jamiul Jawameh , extending over 700 pages. Maulaw i N u r-ud-D i n’s ra reading covered a very wide field. He had read the whole of Shakespeare in Arabic. The present writer recalls having listened to a lecture by the late Mr. Justic Sh a h D i n, Judge of the Chief Court of the Punjab, delivered at Abbottabad on the topic of Education, in September, 1910, which he concluded with the observation: "On the basis of the criteria that I have set out before you, among my wide circle of friends and acquaintances, the only perfectly educated person is Maulaw i H ak i m N u r-ud-D i n ra of Qadian. " The Nawab of Bah a walpur fell ill in August 1894 and was advised by his spiritual preceptor, Khaw a ja Ghul a m Far i d of Chachr an , to send for Maulaw i H ak i m N u r-ud-D i n ra from Qadian. The Nawab wrote to the Promised Messiah as , requesting that Maulaw i Sahib ra may be sent to Bah a walpur for a few days to examine and treat him. He arrived and having done the needful so far as the Nawab was concerned, made ready to return to Qadian. Thereupon Khaw a ja Ghul a m Far i d obtained the permission of the Promised Messiah as , by telegram, for Maulaw i Sahib ra to stay a little longer in Bah a walpur.
