IDEAL DISCIPLE Hadrat Maulw i Nur-ud-D i n ra — Khalifatul Masih I 96 her and enquired in an agitated tone: "Is anything the matter with Maulaw i N u r-ud-D i n?" Some time after the death of Maulaw i ‘Abdul Kar i m ra , Maulaw i N u r-ud-D i n ra happened to fall ill. The Promised Messiah as visited him every day, and on one occasion busied himself with preparing some medicine for him. Hadrat Ummul Mu’min i n ra sensing his anxiety and seeking to comfort him observed: Maulaw i Burh a nudd i n ra has passed away, Maulaw i ‘Abdul Kar i m ra has died; may Allah, of His mercy, restore Maulaw i Sahib ra speedily to health; whereupon the Promised Messiah as affirmed: "This one is the equal of a thousand ‘Abdul Kar i ms. " 26 A slight incident occasioned some irritation to the Promised Messiah as and he admonished his company in these terms: "Some of you have witnessed numerous signs and yet their faith lacks absolute certainty. But there are others who have not felt any need of signs. There is Maulaw i N u r-ud- D i n ra who believed instantly, and being a descendant of Hadrat ‘Umar ra , followed the example of Hadrat Ab u Bakr ra. " Hearing this Maulaw i N u r-ud-D i n ra stood up and submitted: " Hadrat ‘Umar ra affirmed his faith in the words: 'We are happy with Allah as our Lord, and with Muhammad as His Prophet sa. ' I have never harboured any doubt concerning your claim; and I too affirm: I am happy with Allah as my Lord, and with you as the Messiah and Mahdi sa. The Promised Messiah as was so pleased that his face lit up and he dispensed with further admonition. "
