Hadrat Maulw i Nur-ud-D i n ra — Khalifatul Masih I STATUS OF KHALIFA 163 preceptor like a lifeless body and should surrender all his desires to him; and not that the preceptor should affirm that a certain thing is right and proper, and the disciple should hold that the preceptor has not grasped the matter and that he himself understands it better. After taking the pledge such an attitude would amount to impertinence towards Hadrat Khalifatul Masih , and would be a mockery of the purpose of the pledge. " 61 In view of this statement it follows that Maulaw i Muhammad ‘Al i fully subscribed to the following positive affirmations of Hadrat Khalifatul Masih : 1. I state on oath in the name of Allah that it is He Who had made me Khal i fa. 2. Who has now the power to deprive me of the robe of Khilafat ? 3. Allah has made me Khal i fa of His will and His design. 4. You may attribute a thousand faults to me, but you will in effect be finding fault with the design of God Who has made me Khal i fa. 5. As Ab u Bakr ra and ‘Umar ra , may Allah be pleased with them, became Khal i fas , in the same way Allah, the Exalted, has made me Khal i fa after Hadrat Mirz a Sahib. 62 In his Most Important Announcement Maulaw i Muhammad ‘Al i stated: "This holy one Maulaw i N u r-ud- D i n, who is called Khalifatul Masih , is the only one who deserves to be so called in the true meaning of that expression. " 63
