If Iraq can patch up things with Iran after a protracted and bloody war, in which millions were killed or seriously injured, and can agree to return the captured Iranian territory, then why cannot Iraq show this spirit before the outbreak of hostilities now? So, Iraq should withdraw from Kuwait and assure the Muslim world saying that 'just as I had made peace with Iran, I now want to make peace with all of you in order to cope with the impending repression of the anti-Islamic forces, because this repression will not be limited to Iraq in its scope, rather it will engulf all of you in turn. ' Otherwise the strength of Muslim countries would be set on a backward course for decades and they will be abjectly dependent on the aid of other countries. The thunderclaps resounding at the moment are so deafening and the lightening is flashing so fiercely that if these are not visible to the Muslims, then it is beyond comprehension. They are oblivious of the dangers lurking on the horizon, and they have fallen into two camps and are arraying themselves against each other like fools. It is therefore necessary for Iraq to broadcast such a message extensively to the Muslim world, and declare that Iraq wants to withdraw and accept the unanimous verdict of the Muslim world, provided non-Muslim powers are not allowed to be a part of this process. This appeal would cause the universal Muslim public opinion to rise up in favour of Iraq, and those powers who, for the sake of keeping up appearances, even with latent ill-intentions, are bound to keep good relations with Muslim countries, would inevitably have to respond positively to such an appeal; if they did not, then since such an initiative by Iraq to follow the Islamic teachings would be for the sake of God and His Word, God would afford His Protection to Iraq from those dangers that are currently hovering over its soil. Our unassuming appeal in this respect is a humble word of advice. If someone wants to listen to it in earnestness, understands it and then acts upon it, then he will benefit from it, because what I am presenting is the Quranic teaching. But if this word of advice from us is rejected with scorn and arrogance then I warn you today that the Muslim world will sink into such grave dangers that the entire world of Islam will 53
