Be sure that the earthquake You witnessed in February Was a mere jolt To warn and to make you wary. O unheeding people! With the water of your eyes Try to quench the fire That is about to rain from the skies. Why should earthquakes not come When goodness and piety wane; Even a Muslim today Is only a Muslim in name. Did they accept me for fear of Him? Did they give up their malevolence? Nay, to hear their vilification Seems to be the purpose of my existence. They call me an infidel, An antichrist, and a man of sin; The chance of their accepting me Truly and sincerely, is slim. 1 In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
