454 Essence of Islam-III The treatment that my own people have accorded to me is well known and the hostility of other people towards me is natural. All of them have done their utmost to de- stroy me. They have contrived every project for doing me harm and have carried it to its limit. They have omit- ted nothing-prayers, declarations of the merit of slaying me, slander and defamation. Then which is the hand that safeguards me? Had I been a liar, God would Himself have furnished the means of my ruin and it would not have been necessary for people to devise methods for my ruin and be frustrated by God. Is it the sign of a liar that the Holy Qur'ān should bear witness for him, heavenly signs should be manifested in his support, reason should uphold him, and those who desire his death should them- selves die? I do not believe that after the age of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), any opponent of a godly or true person has suffered such clear defeat and disgrace as my enemies have on account of their opposition to me. When they attacked my honour they were themselves disgraced, and when they an- nounced that I was a liar and I would die before them, they ended up dying before me. [Tohfah-e-Golarhviyyah, Rūņānī Khazā'in, vol. 17, pp. 45-46] How can God, Whose powerful hand supports heaven and earth and all that is between them, be frustrated by the designs of men? The day is near when He will an- nounce His Judgement. It is a sign of the righteous that the end is always in their favour. God descends upon their hearts with His manifestations. How can that struc- ture be demolished in which the true King has His abode? Revile me as much as you like, and devise what- ever means of persecution you can think of, and make every plan for my ruin, but remember that God will soon
