نفس ]aor. يَنْفُرُ and يَنْفِرُ inf. noun نِفِارَةً and نَفْرْاً and نَفِيْرًا and نُفُورٌ[ : He took fright and fled or ran away at random or broke loose and went hither and thither. نَفَرَتِ الدَّابَّةُ : The beast was impatient. نَفَرُوا : They became separated and dispersed; they went forth to war (against disbelievers or the like(. نَفَرُوْا إِلَى الْحَرْبِ : They hastened to war. اِنْفِرُوْا خِفَافًا وَ ثِقَالاً : Go forth light and heavy )9:41( نَفَرٌ : A number of men from 3 to 10 or to 7 or to 9 or number much less than 10 excluding women; a man's tribe 28 = لک : هؤُلاءِ عَشَرَةُ نَفَرٍ اَوْ اَنْفَارِ رَهْطُ . consisting of his near relations (syn These are ten men. اَعَرُّ نَفَرًا : Stronger in respect of men or relatives )18:35( وَ إِذْ صَرَفْنَا إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِّنَ الْجِنِّ : And when We turned towards thee a party of jinn )46:30( نُفُورٌ : Hatred; abhorrence; loathing, running away. وَمَا يَزِيْدُهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا : It only increases them in perversion )17:42( نَفِيْرٌ : A people; a company of men; a people hastening to war. وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيْرًا : And We made you larger in numbers )17:27( مُسْتَنفِرَةٌ : Taking fright and fleeing or running away at random. كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَفِرَةٌ : As though they were asses taking fright and running away at random or were frightened asses (74:51). نفر نَفَرَ It : نَفِسَ [نُفُوسٌ and نَفَسٌ and نِفَاسٌ and نَفَاسَةٌ inf. noun يَنْفُسُ aor نَفْسَ was or became high in estimation and therefore was desired with emulation, or was in much respect نَفِسَ به : He was or became niggardly or avaricious of it because of its being in high estimation نَافَسَ فِي الشَّيْءِ : He desired the thing or aspired to it. تَنَافَسُوْا فِيْهِ : They vied with one another in desiring it. وَفِي ذلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسٍ الْمُتَنَافِسُوْنَ : For this let the aspirants aspire )83:27(. تَنَفْسَ فِي الْكَلامِ : He or it breathed; he drew breath; he lengthened in speech. 1) نَفْسٌ( The soul; the spirit; the vital principal part. )أَنْفُسٌ and نُفُوْسٌ plurals(. أَنْ تَقُوْلَ نَفْسٌ : Lest a soul should say )39:57( أَخْرِجُوْا أَنْفُسَكُمْ : Bring out your souls. خَرَجَتْ نَفْسُهُ : He died (2) Mind. تَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِي : Thou knowest what is in my mind (5:117); (3) Person. وَ إِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْسًا : And when you slew a person (2:73); (4) Punishment. وَ يُحَذِّرُكُمُ اللَّهُ نَفْسَهُ : Allah cautions you against His punishment (3:29); (5) A thing's self. جَاءَنى بنَفْسِهِ : He came to me himself; (6) A person or being; a man; 786
