صار صام sun attained its full height. صَوْمٌ and صِيَامٌ )inf. noun(: )1( Refraining from something; (2)refraining or abstaining from eating, drinking, talking, walking etc; (3) abstaining from eating, drinking, coitus i. e. fasting as prescribed by Islam; fast. كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ : Fasting is prescribed for you )2:189( إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ صَوْمًا : I have vowed a fast to the Gracious One i. e. vowed not to speak. )19:27( أَوْ عَدْلُ ذَلِكَ صِيَامًا : Or the equivalent thereof in fasting )5:96( صَائِمٌ )act. part. ( . اَلصَّائِمُوْنَ and اَلصَّائِمِينَ )plurals of And : وَالصَّائِمِينَ وَالصَّائِمَاتِ . (صَائِمُوْنَ feminine of) صَائِمَاتٌ . (صَائِمٌ those men who keep fast and those women who keep fast (33:36). ه و صَاحَ ]aor. يَصِيحُ inf. noun صَيْحَةٌ and صِيَاحٌ and صَيْحٌ [ : He cried, shouted, exclaimed or did so vehemently or with his utmost power. صَاحَ صَيْحَةً شَدِيدَةً : He cried vehemently . صِيْحَ بِهِمْ : They were frightened صِيْحَ فِيْهِمْ : They perished صَاحَتِ الشَّجَرَةُ : The tree became tall. صَاحَ عَلَيْهِ : He scolded him. صَيْحَةٌ : Aloud cry; punishment, castigation or chastisement; a hostile or predatory incursion by which a tribe is surprised. فَاَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ : So the punishment seized them (15:84). صَاحَ الزَّمَانُ لِأَهْلِ بَرْمَكَةَ صَيْحَةً وَخَرُّوْا لِصَيْحَتِهِ عَلَى الْأَذْقَانِ The time cried aloud for the family of Barmaka and they fell on their knees on account of that awful cry i. e. they perished. صَادَ ]aor. يَصِيدُ and يَصَادُ inf. noun صَيْدٌ [ : He caught or ensnared, trapped or sought to catch or ensnare or entrap the game; he hunted or chased it or lurked for it. صَيْدٌ : What is taken, captured, entrapped or sought to be captured etc; what is hunted or chased; game chase or prey; an object of the chase; the prey of any beast or bird غَيْرَ مُحِلَّى الصَّيْدِ : You should not hold game to be lawful )5:2( وَإِذَا حَلَلْتُمْ فَاصْطَادُوا : And when you have put off the pilgrim's garb and left the sacred territory you may hunt (5:3). صَارَ ]aor. يَصِيرُ inf. noun صَيْرٌ and صَيْرُوْرَةٌ and صَارَ كَذَا [مَصِيْرٌ : He or it attained to the state or condition of such a thing; he or it 497
