صلی صلی الصلوة : Prayer supplication or petition or invocation of God's mercy or invocation of God's blessings and mercy. إِنَّ صَوتك سَكَنْ لَّهُمْ : Verily, they prayer is a source of tranquility for them (9:103); prayer for forgiveness; invocation of God's mercy and blessings upon any one (plural( وَصَلَوَاتِ الرَّسُوْلِ صَلوة : And blessings of the Messenger )9:99( عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّهِمْ : Upon them are blessings from their Lord (2:158); mercy of God, His blessings and eulogy or commendation bestowed upon His Prophet; asking of Divine forgiveness for men by the angels; the time of the Prayer or the place thereof; opening chapter of the Holy Qur'an )سُوْرَةُ الْفَاتِحَةِ(. In the plural ie صَلَوَاتٌ it also means, the places of worship of the Jews i. e. synagogues. لَهُدِّمَتْ صَوَامِعُ وَبِيَعٌ وَّصَلَواتُ : There would have been put down cloisters, churches, synagogues and mosques (22:41); prayer. وَلا تَجْهَرْ بصَلائِكَ : And utter not thy prayer aloud (17:111); Islamic prescribed form of prayer. وَيُقِيمُوْنَ الصَّلُوةَ : And observe Prayer )2:4(; any mode or form of worship or Prayer. كُلِّ قَدْ عَلِمَ صَلاتَهُ : Each one knows his own mode of Prayer )24:42( صَلاةُ الْفَجْرِ : The morning Prayer )24:59( صَلاةُ الْعِشَاءِ : The night Prayer )24:59( صَلَاةُ الْوُسْطَى : The middle Prayer )2:23( صَلَوَاتٌ )plural(: Prayers. حَافِظُوْا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ : Watch over Prayers )2:239( الْمُصَلَّى : )act. part. from صَلّى( : One who says Prayer. مُصَلِّيْنَ )plural(. فَوَيْلٌ لِلْمُصَلِّيْنَ : Woe to those who pray )1075( مُصَلَّى : The place of worship. وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِمَ مُصَلَّى : Take ye the station of Abraham as a place of worship (2:126). 28 صَلَى ]aor. يَصْلِى inf. noun صِلِيٌّ and صَلَى اللَّحْمَ صَلَّى : He roasted, broiled or fried flesh-meat. صَلَاهُ النَّارَ أَوْ فِى النَّارِ وَعَلَى النَّارِ : He threw it into the fire to be burned (as also أَصْلَاهُ النَّارَ وَصَلَاهُ أَصْلَاهُ( )inf noun تَصْلِيَّةٌ ( : He made him to enter into the fire and to remain, stay, dwell or abide therein; he cast him into the fire. سَوْفَ نُصْلِيْهِمْ نَارًا : We shall soon cause them to enter Fire or cast them into Fire )4:57( صَلَيْتُ فُلانًا أَوْ صَلَيْتُ لَهُ : I calumniated him and caused him to fall into destruction in consequence thereof. صَلَى فُلانًا (inf. noun ) : We soothed, cajoled or deceived, deluded such a one. صَلِيَ النَّارَ )aor. يَصْلَى inf. noun صِلِيٌّ and )صَلَّى( : He entered 489
