 ø ] It is a noun of indication properly meaning "This" (but sometimes when repeated better rendered "that"), relating to an object of masculine gender such as is near. It is a noun of which the signification is vague and unknown until it is explained by what follows it.  ø ] ] Ö  $ q ö Ø ö : This man.  ø ] ]ø ì ö ç » Õ ø : This is thy brother.  ô p » (feminine).  ô p » ]ö ì » jö Ô ø : This is thy sister.  ø ] á ô ]ø ì ø ç ø ] Õ ø (  ø ] á ô is dual of  ø ] ). Those are thy two brothers. ]ö æ Ö ^ ð ô (plural). ]ö æ Ö ? ^ ð ô ]ô ì » ç ø iö Ô ø : These are thy brothers. â ö Ü » ]ö æ Ö ? ^ ð ô Â ø ×F o ]ø $ø  ô p » : They are following in my footsteps (20:85). The letter â ø ^ which is used to give notice to a person addressed of some thing about to be said to him is prefixed to  ø ]. Thus you say Ú ø ^ Öô ã F  ø ] ] Ö  $  ö ç » Ù ô : What is the matter with this Messenger (25:8). â F  ô å´ (feminine). You also add Ù to  ø ] Õ ø as a corroborative, so that you say  F Öô Ô ø (meaning that). relating to an object that is distant by common consent. ]ô á $ Ê ô o »  F Öô Ô ø Öø  ô Ò »  F p : In that verily is a reminder (39:22).  F Öô Ó ö Ü ö ] Ö × # ä ö  ø e % Ó ö Ü » : That is your Lord (10:4).  F Öô Ô ø ] Ö» Ó ô jø ^ h ö Ö ^  ø m» g ø Ê ô n» ä ô : This Book, there is no doubt in it.  F Öô Ô ø is primarily used in the sense of `that` but here it is used in the sense of `this` to denote that the Book is remote from others in respect of highness and greatness of rank.  ø ] is syn. with ]ø Ö $  ô p » when it falls after Ú ø ^ and Ú ø à » which are used as interrogative. Ú ø ^  ø ] Ê ø Ã ø ×» k ø : What it is that thou didst. Ú ø à »  ø ] Ê ô o ] Ö  $ ]  ô : Who it is that is in the house. Ú ø ^  ø ] mö ß» Ë ô Ï ö ç » á ø : What is it that they should expend (2:216). Ò ø  ø ] and â F Ó ø  ø ] : Like this or thus. ]ø â F Ó ø  ø ] Â ø  »  ö Ô ô : Is thy throne like this (27:43). Ò ø  F Öô Ô ø : So, in like manner. â F  ø ] is sometimes used to express contempt. ]ø â F  ø ] ] Ö $  ô p » eø Ã ø & ø ] Ö × # ä ö  ø  ö ç »  ÷ : Is this he whom Allah has sent as a Messenger (25:42).
