حن حنجر حَنَذَ الْحَنَاجِرَ : Hearts reached to the throats حَنْجَرَتِ الْعَيْنُ : The eye sank into its socket. ]aor. يَحْنِذُ inf. noun حَنْذَا and حَنَذَ اللَّحْمَ مَحْنَاذًا : He roasted the flesh and meat with heated stones in order to cook it thoroughly; he roasted a sheep or kid or goat حَنَذَتْهُ الشَّمْسُ : The sun burned him. حَنِيَّةٌ : Roasted flesh, meat; or roasted with heated stones in order to cook it thoroughly. أَنْ جَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ حَنِيْذٍ : And brought a roasted calf (11:70). حَنَفَ ]aor. يَحْنِفُ inf. noun حَنْفًا [ : He inclined or declined. حَنَفَ عَنْهُ : He declines from it. تَحَتَّفَ : He turned away from the worship of idols; he devoted himself to religious exercises. حُنَفَاءَ ) حَنِيْفٌ plural): One on the right path; one who adheres firmly to Islam; one who is of the religion of Abraham; who believes in one God; one inclining to or having a right state or tendency; one who turns or inclines from error to guidance. مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا : The religion of Abraham who was ever inclined to God )2:136( حُنَفَاءَ لِلَّهِ غَيْرَ مُشْرِكِيْنَ بِهِ : Remaining ever inclined to Allah, not associating anything with Him (22:32). حَنَکَ ]aor. يَحْنُكُ and يَحْنِكُ inf. noun حَنَكَ الصَّبِيَّ حَنْكًا or حَنَّكَهُ : He حَنَّ chewed some dates or some other thing of a similar kind and rubbed therewith the palate of the child. حَنَكَ الْفَرَسَ أَوْ اِحْتَنَكَهُ : He put a rope in the mouth of the horse and led him. حَنَكَتْهُ السِّنَّ : Age rendered him firm or sound in judgement by means of experience. حَنَکَ الشَّيْءَ : He understood the thing and knew it thoroughly. اِحْتَنَكَ الْجَرَادُ الْأَرْضَ : The locusts ate what was upon the land and consumed its herbage. اِحْتَكَهُ : He put a rope in his mouth and led him; he took the whole of his property; he gained the mastery over him. لَاَحْتَنِكُنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ : I will lead his progeny by the nose; I will certainly extirpate his progeny; I will assuredly gain the mastery over his progeny (17:63). ]aor. يَحِنُّ inf. noun حَنِينٌ [ : He was or became affected with an intense emotion of grief or of joy. حَنَّ إِلَيْهِ : He yearned towards or longed for him or it. حَنَّ قَلْبِي إِلَيْهِ : My heart yearned for him. حَنَّ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ تَحَنَّنَ : He was merciful or compassionate towards him 206
