حرث حَرَتْ ]aor. يَحْرُثُ and يَحْرِثُ inf. noun حَرَتَ الْمَالَ حَرْتُ : He earned wealth and collected it حَرُتَ : He sought after gain and laboured diligently; he laboured for the goods of this world; he sowed حَرَتَ الْأَرْضَ : He tilled or cultivated land; he ploughed the ground and sowed seeds on it. حَرَتَ امْرَأَتَهُ : He had frequent sexual intercourse with his wife حَرَتَ الدَّابَّةَ : He emaciated the beast and fatigued it by journeying on it. حَرَتَ النَّارَ : He stirred the fire حَرَتَ الْأَمْرَ : He examined, studied and investigated and looked into the affair حَرَتَ الشَّيْءَ : He learned the thing and applied himself to its study. حَرْتُ : Gain or acquisition, recompense or reward; a lot, share or portion; worldly goods; مَنْ كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْتَ الْآخِرَةِ : Whoso desires the reward of the Hereafter (42: 21); seed-produce; tilled or a place or land ploughed for sowing; land under crop; crop or produce of land whether field-crop or garden crop; a wife as in كَيْفَ حَرْتُكَ i. e. how is your wife; a road or beaten track or the middle of the road. نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْتٌ لَّكُمْ : Your wives are a tilth for you )2:224( يُهْلِكَ الْحَرْتَ وَالنَّسْلَ : He destroys the crops and the progeny of men )2:204( اَفَرَءَ يُتُمْ مَّا تَحْرُثُوْنَ : Do you see what you sow )56:64(. حَرَّاتٌ : A sower or cultivator of land; one who eats much; a greater eater. حَرِجَ ]aor. يَحْرَجُ inf. noun حَرِجَ الشَّيْءُ حَرَجٌ : The thing was or became close strait or narrow. حَرِجَ صَدْرُهُ : His bosom became strait or contracted. حَرِجَ الرَّجُلُ : The man committed a sin or crime for which he deserved punishment; حَرِجَ : He was in difficultly or he became straitened, particularly by the commission of a sin or crime; he became disquieted and contracted in his bosom, and he doubted because doubt disquiets the mind. حَرِجَتِ الْعَيْنُ : The eye became dazzled or sank in its socket and its vision became straitened. حَرِجَ عَلَيْهِ الشَّيْءُ : The thing became forbidden to him; حَرِجَ إِلَيْهِ : He betook himself to him for protection from a difficulty or strait. حَرِجَ الْغُبَارُ : The dust rose in a narrow place. حَرَجٌ : Straitness; or difficulty; a sin, an objection or harm or blame; a crime or an act of disobedience for which one deserves punishment or straitness which is the consequence of 172
