حجر حجب things i. e. a bar, a barrier, partition, a written charm or amulet; the horizon. حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ : It became concealed by the horizon (38:33); a mountain or an elevated part of a mountain. قَعَدَ فِي ظِلِّ الْحِجَابِ : He sat in the shade of the mountain; the light of the sun or a side or part of the sun. مَحْجُرْبٌ : Concealed debarred; secluded; blind هُوَ مَحْجُوْبٌ عَنِ الْخَيْرِ : He is debarred from good. إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوْبُوْنَ : On that day they will be debarred from their Lord (83:16). حَجَرَ ]aor. يَحْجُرُ inf. noun حَجْرٌ and حُجْرٌ and حَجَرَهُ حِجْرٌ : He prevented, hindered, debarred or prohibited him. حَجَرَ عَلَيْهِ الْأَمْرَ : He made the affair forbidden or unlawful or prohibited to him. حَجْرٌ and حِجْرٌ : Bosom or breast of a man or woman (plural is فُلَانٌ فِي حَجْرِ فُلَانِ حُجُوْرٌ : Such a one is in the protection of such a one. نَشَأَ فِي حِجْرِهِ أَوْ حَجْرِهِ : He grew up in his care and protection. الَّتِي فِي حُجُوْرِكُمْ : Who are under your care i. e. your wards )4:24(. حِجْرٌ : Forbidden, unlawful, inviolable or sacred. وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخًا وَحِجْرًا مَّحْجُوْرًا : He (God) has made a barrier and strong and inviolable obstruction )25:54( هَذِهِ أَنْعَامٌ وَحَرْتُ حِجْرٌ : These cattle and crops are forbidden )6:139( هَذَاحِجْرٌ عَلَيْكَ : This is forbidden or unlawful to thee; any garden or walled garden; the anterior pudendum of a man or woman, a mare; relationship that prohibits marriage; nearness with respect to Kindred; understanding, intelligence, reason. هَلْ فِي ذَلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ : Truly, in this is an oath for men of understanding )896( حُجْرَةٌ )plural is حُجُرَاتٌ( : An enclosure; a chamber, or an upper chamber; apartment; a side; a tomb الَّذِيْنُ يُنَادُوْنَكَ مِنْ وَّرَاءِ الْحُجُرَاتِ : Those who call thee from behind the private apartments (49:5). حَجَرٌ )plural حِجَارَةٌ ( : A stone sand rock أَهْلُ الْحَجْرِ : The people of the desert. الْحَجْرُ الْاَسْوَدُ : The black stone of the Ka'bah فلان حَجَرُ الْاَرْضِ : Such a one is unequalled. اَلْحَجَرُ means gold. اِضْرِبْ بَعَصَاكَ الْحَجَرَ : And strike the rock with thy rod )2:1( فَهِىَ كَالْحِجَارَةِ : They were like the stones )275( الْوَلَدُ لِلْفَرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ : The son shall go to him in whose bed it is born and for the adulterer is stoning or disappointment and prohibition. (A saying of the Holy Prophet). 166
