him. As it was written: , 'But their eyes were holden that they should not know him'. (Luke 24:16) They were confused. From the way they talked it was clear that they did not know what was happening, and their interpretations differed. Jesus listened with great interest but finally exclaimed: O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory'. (Luke 29:25-26) and he explained what the scriptures had said about him beginning with Moses and taking them through all the prophets. Here we have a clear statement by Jesus after the resurrection pointing to the prophecies and their complete fulfilment as borne out by his own experiences. He describes himself as the Messiah and speaks of suffering; but there is not a word about dying. What did the prophets say? The Dead Sea Scrolls and other new discoveries have revealed fresh facts. All the prophets predicted that Jesus would be saved by God; that he would have to suffer. But there was no mention of death in the whole of the Old Testament; where there appears to be, it is due to incorrect translation. 92
