254 Ahmedia Imam in India The The day after Christmas there will be a historic meeting of hundreds of thousands of Ahmedia Muslims at Qadian in District Ourdaspur۔It will be historic bac MIL for the first time since independence, the head of the Jamaal, Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmed, will be visiting India۔Amongst the celebrities expected is Nobel Laureate Dr Abdus Salam۔The 'Ahmedia movement wu launched in 1889 by Mirza Ghulam Ahmed of Qadian۔As it began Lo catch on, they opened centres in 130 countries, carried on * vigorous conversion campaign among African Blacki and built mosques and madrassas in all countries of Europe and the Middle East including Israel۔Amongst the most celebrated members of the community was Chaudhury Sir Zafrullah Khan and now Dr Abdus Salam۔Their success raised the ire of orthodox Sunni Mullahs۔They felt that by proclaiming a new messiah, the Ahmedias, also known ** Qedians and pejoratively as Mirzais, denied a basic tenet of Islam, viz۔۔that Mohammed was the last messiah and seal of prophethood۔However much the Ahmedias denied the charge, the and-Ahmedia campaign caught on, particularly in Pakistan where they have large and flourishing township at Rabwah, 顱 The persecution of Ahmedias in Pakistan has come up before Human Rights Organization many times۔First, they were declared non- Muslims by the Supreme Court of Pakistan۔Following the judgement, they were forbidden to call for prayer from their mosques and not allowed to greet other Muslims with the usual As Salaam u Walackum (peace be upon you), 1, a Sikh, can use the greeting an Ahmedia Muslim may not۔By contrast secular India, despite its communal upheavals, will welcome the arrival of Mirza Tahir Ahmed and Ahmédias from all countries of the world۔
