38 A critical Review of the Pamphlet—‘f a te h -e-Qadian’ Charge of Plagiarism In his book Saif-e-Chishtiy a ’ i , the biggest objection P i r Meher ‘Al i raised was that some sentences in the book I‘j a zul-Mas ih (which amounted to no more than four lines in a book comprising over 200 pages), had been plagiarised from Muq a m a t-e- H ar i r i , the Holy Quran or some other books; some of which had been written with minor variations. Moreover, some were from well-known Arabic proverbs. This was the allegation of plagiarism, which the P i r had raised against Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. In his book Nuz u lul-Mas ih , the Promised Messiah as gave a sufficient and well reasoned response to this allegation. Here we shall mention some points briefly: • It is common to find a similar theme in one or two sentences of writers. • Sentences are sometimes used as excerpts by authors. • In H ar i r i ’s book, some verses of the Holy Quran are found as excerpts. 19 • We find some sentences and couplets of other authors without any change or reconstruction in H ar i r i ’s writings. • Some sentences of ‘Abul Fa d l Bad i -‘uz-Zam a n, the genius author of his age, exactly match Hariri. 19 H ar i r i is an authentic Arabic author, and a celebrated master of prose, whose writing comprises rhythmic and rhyming prose. The collection of his writings is called Muq a m a t-e- H ar i r i.
