Condition VII 135 Hadrat Ab u Sa ‘i d Khudr i ra narrates that the Holy Prophet sa said, ‘Anyone who adopts a degree of humility, Allah will elevate his status to a degree so much so that he will be granted a place in ‘Iliyy i n [ i. e. , the highest of the high ]. And the one who shows arrogance in front of Allah and adopts a degree of vanity, Allah will lower his spiritual status to such a degree so much so that He will make him reach Asfal-us- S a f ili n [the lowest of the low]. ’ ( Musnadu Ahmadabni H a n bal , B aqi Musnadil Mukthir i na mina s-S a ha bah, Musnadu Ab i Sa‘ i d al-Khudr i ) Your safety is to leave the company of such persons by saying ‘ sal a m ’ to them. It is better for you because your spiritual levels will be raised, and the opponents will be falling among the lowest of the low. Again, it is narrated in h ad i th : Hadrat Ab u Hurairah ra narrated that the Holy Prophet sa said, ‘Your wealth does not decrease by giving s adaqah [charity]. And the more a person forgives others, the more Allah grants him honour; the more a person adopts humility and humble- ness, the more Allah raises his status. ’ ( S a hih Muslim , Kit ab- ul- Birri wa s-S ilah, B a bu Isti h b a bil ‘Afwi Wat-Taw ad u‘i) ‘Iy ad Bin H im a r al-Muj a shi ‘i ra narrated that the Holy Prophet sa said, ‘Allah has revealed to me that you should adopt humbleness to the extent that no one shows his pride to the others and no one commits any act of aggression against another. ’ ( S a hih M usli m, Kit ab- ul-Jannati wa S ifati Na ‘i mih a Wa Ahlih a , B a bu s - S if a tillat i yo‘arafu bih a fid-Duny a Ahlul- Jannati Wa Ahlun-N a r, H ad i th No. 7210)
