Glossary xv Hadrat —A term of respect used for a person of established righteousness and piety. H ajj —Pilgrimage to the House of Allah in Mecca, Arabia; also known as the fifth pillar of Islam. H al a l —Lawful, permissible or pure. H ar a m —Unlawful, forbidden or impure. H aq-Mehr —The money [or gift] a husband either gives or promises to give to his wife; it is announced at the time of nik ah. Holy Prophet sa —A term used exclusively for Hadrat Muhammad sa , the Prophet of Islam. Holy Qur’an —The Book sent by Allah for the guidance of mankind. It was revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa over a period of twenty-three years. H u du r —Your Holiness; His Holiness. Ijtim a ‘ —Gathering of members of an organisation. Plural is ijtim a‘a t. Imam —The Arabic word for a leader. The head of the Ahmadiyyah Muslim Jam a ‘at is also referred to as the Imam. Insh a’ Allah —An Arabic term meaning ‘God-willing’. Istighf a r —Seeking Allah’s forgiveness. Istikh a rah —A special Prayer made to seek guidance from Allah before making an important decision. Jalsah S a l a nah —Annual convention or gathering.
